A Large Volume Parenteral (LVP) is a single-dose injection that has been sterilised using heat and is then packaged in a glass bottle or flexible container with a capacity of more than 100ml. To administer the active drug compounds directly into the blood vessels, organs, tissues, or lesions, an injection must be administered through the skin or another external boundary tissue. Aqueous solutions are typically administered in amounts ranging from 100 ml to 5,000 ml as large volume parenterals (LVPs or large volume injections).
Typically, Large Volume Parenteral are employed to deliver fluid replacement therapy. Subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and intravenous delivery methods are all possible. A water-miscible or non-aqueous vehicle, an active agent, and other ingredients including buffers, antioxidants, preservatives, and surfactants are usually included. Tonicity regulators and antimicrobials. Peritoneal dialysis, irrigating solutions, blood derivatives, medication premixes, and contrast agents are a few of the LVPs that are frequently accessible globally.
